Concord Welcomes New Athletic Director

Dear Concord Community,

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Coach Bruce E. Johnson as Concord Christian School’s new Athletic Director. Our in-depth search centered on finding an individual who believes in the mission and vision of Concord Christian School, understands what it takes to reach young people, and possesses the experience and skills necessary to sustain and grow our athletic program now and into the future.

Coach Johnson has distinguished himself as a seasoned Christian educator, coach, and administrator who possesses the calling, leadership skills, dedication, and passion we were seeking for our program. His goal will be to build an athletic program that fosters a Christ-centered culture, builds character, and rewards excellence and discipline in and out of the team environment.

Coach Johnson has served most recently as Athletic Director at Statesville Christian and High Point Christian Academy, both in North Carolina.  Originally from Ohio, Bruce has served as a player, teacher, coach, and athletic director for nearly 40 years in high school, collegiate, and professional sports. His overall experience demonstrated a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of all sports and the associated support that is necessary to strategically grow and advance our athletic programs.

Coach Johnson had the privilege to preach his father’s funeral in 1999 and his text was I Corinthians 4: 1-2 Let us so be considered as ministers of Christ and steward of the mysteries of God. Moreover, it is required of stewards that a man be found faithful. This became his life verse and his goal in ministry and life is to be found, like his father, faithful in small things, faithful in all things.

Bruce and his wife of 38 years, Pamela are in the process of moving to Knoxville from North Carolina and plans to be on campus starting May 7, 2018. This is a great day for Concord Christian School and our athletic program. Join me in welcoming Coach Johnson to our Concord Family!
