General Music

The curriculum we use for general music is a combination of Silver Burdett, Kodaly and Orff and is applied to a wide variety of Christian songs.

Each student gains an understanding of music elements such as expression, rhythm, form, melody, timbre, texture and harmony through reading, performing, creating, listening and moving.

These national music standards will also cross the curriculum reinforcing material they are learning in their core subjects.

We use a wide variety of Christian pieces combined with the curriculum standards as set up by Music Educators National Conference and American Choral Directors Association.

The students gain an understanding and demonstrate correct vocal production in terms of breath control, vowel sounds, diction, blend, vocal placement, part singing, sight singing, rhythmic counting, performance techniques, as well as, elements of music appreciation, history and theory.

This is a performance based class and includes the opportunity to present several programs at the school and in the community including several opportunities to combine with outreach.
