Library

Each class in grades K through 5 visits the library weekly. Lessons for younger students include story time, proper handling of books, call numbers, fiction vs. non-fiction books, and a basic appreciation of literature. Older students learn the Dewey Decimal system, literary elements in stories, and research skills.  Students may check out books during their scheduled library day as well as any time during open library hours, which occur daily. In addition, students may use the media lab portion of the media center to take Accelerated Reader quizzes or to conduct individual research.

Accelerated Reader

Accelerated Reading

Accelerated Reader is available to parents through Reading Renaissance, the program that houses Accelerated Reader (AR) and Accelerated Math (AM). This program, called Renaissance Home Connect, will allow parents to track their child’s progress, view reading lists, and receive e-mails showing quiz results.

To log in to Renaissance Home Connect Website, go to: https://Hosted72.renlearn.com/874308/HomeConnect

To look up AR book levels quickly and easily, go to: www.arbookfind.com

If you have any questions concerning this program or any other aspect of AR or AM, please contact Mrs. Donnelly, our media specialist.

Volunteer State Book Award

VSBA encourages students throughout the state of Tennessee to read books from the same list throughout the year and vote on their favorite in the spring. CCS students in grades 3 through 8 who read three books in their respective categories (and pass the AR quizzes) will be invited to an ice cream party in the spring. Voting will take place at the ice cream party. Please see the link below for this year’s nominees. Note: Not all titles nominated may be appropriate for all families. Please review the list with you child to select appropriate titles. If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Donnelly.
